Engineers Week, run by the Engineers Ireland STEPS programme, has been created to introduce primary and secondary school children to the diverse world of engineering. STEPS Engineers Week will take place from Saturday, 1 - Friday, 7 March 2025.
The STEPS Team is calling on engineers and engineering organisations to get involved: collaborate with your local schools, choosing from the below menu of activities to interact with the students. In our experience, this combination of professional expertise and learning-by-doing inspires children to open their eyes to how engineering is part of everyday life.
How your engineering organisation can get involved:
A. Select your activity from the STEPS Engineers Week Engagement Menu below.
B. Download our Guide for Engineering Organisations which includes all the information you need to organise your Engineers Week activity in one easy document.
This innovative approach to a school visit skips the PowerPoint! Start by introducing yourself and your organisation, then engage students with a 5-minute speed career chat per person. Follow this up with an interactive hands-on activity or challenge to make the experience both informative and engaging.
Transform the school hall into an interactive hub for engineering circuits, offering longer engagement for primary school students. Set up four to six stations featuring hands-on engineering challenges that utilise everyday materials, encouraging creativity and problem-solving.
To maximise participation, consider involving multiple class groups simultaneously, creating a dynamic and collaborative learning environment.
Take this opportunity to inspire students by showcasing your engineering projects. Partner with a local school to arrange a tour of one of your existing or completed engineering projects. This hands-on experience allows students to see real-world applications of engineering, sparking their curiosity and interest in the field.
Open the doors of your organisation for a family day on Saturday 1st or Sunday 2nd March.
As an activity organiser it is critical for you to evaluate your STEPS Engineers Week experiences, so we can analyse the positive impact of all your hard work. We will email you our feedback surveys in advance of Engineers Week.
Would you like to discuss any specific questions that you may have about STEPS Engineers Week 2025? This 30-minute call allows us to discuss any plans you have, or any queries you may have about getting involved.
