Joining from overseas

Global Engineers are individuals who have studied overseas or have identified Ireland as their next country to operate as an engineer in.

The critical skills shortage visa means that larger numbers of engineers are coming to Ireland and building successful careers. In the wake of Brexit, many engineers are now joining from overseas as they want to be part of an EU-based professional body.

We welcome engineers from all around the world into the Engineers Ireland community and our Global Engineers population is our fastest growing area of membership.

Working as an engineer in Ireland

Engineers Ireland is your engineering community in Ireland. If you’re considering moving here to work as an engineer, you will need the following:

  • The right to work in Ireland
  • A relevant engineering qualification
  • To join as an Engineers Ireland member, that qualification should be recognised through our international agreements or else we’ll have to individually assess your prior qualifications, skills and experience.

Global Engineers Webinars

Our Global Engineers series webinars highlight the positive impact that global engineers are having in Ireland and provide information around the benefits of membership with Engineers Ireland.

Webinar features include job opportunities from Engineers Ireland recruitment partners and dedicated information sessions specifically for certain regions.

Verified International Applications

If you don’t have verified digital records of academic documents for prior studies, including English-translated documents, and wish to obtain them during your application for Membership, you can select Parchment formerly Digitary Core when requested during your submission.

This will enable you to obtain your verified digital records that can help fast-track your application. The Parchment option includes a one-off charge.

This documentation will be yours to use and will be widely accepted for verification by Engineering Employers while in Ireland and other countries.
