The board of Trinity College Dublin is continuing its discussion regarding the future operations of Science Gallery Dublin.
The board was briefed on Science Gallery Dublin’s finances, which reveal that due to a sharp decline in grants and philanthropic income since 2017, the gallery incurred substantial deficits in each of the past four financial years.
As of September 30, 2021, the accumulated deficit stood at €1.65 million. Board was also briefed on the ongoing discussions with the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS) and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media (TCAGSM) about the future of Science Gallery Dublin.
Provost Linda Doyle and other Trinity officials met with DFHERIS and TCAGSM officials earlier in the week to discuss the future of Science Gallery Dublin. The discussions will continue.
Trinity remains committed to the Science Gallery Network and intends to consult with members on how best to re-imagine Science Gallery Dublin in the future.
