The Engineers Ireland Thomond region were delighted to present a cheque for €1,100 to Milford Hospice after a recent fundraiser on social media.
The Thomond region, comprising of Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary, started the fundraiser to acknowledge the fact that their LinkedIn social media page reached a milestone of 1,000 followers since the page was created in December 2018.
The LinkedIn page, in addition to the region’s Twitter page, is used to actively promote the region’s rich engineering sector and engineering activities and events. To mark this milestone, the Engineers Ireland Thomond Region called upon their connections on social media to raise some much-needed funds for the Milford Hospice.
David Purcell, Engineers Ireland Thomond Region Committee member, said: "We discussed the idea at our monthly meeting and agreed to mark this milestone by raising funds to support our local community.
"The committee agreed that Milford Hospice would be a very worthy recipient considering how difficult it is to run fundraisers at present.
Engineering community thanked
"The target of €1,000 was surpassed by the end of September and we were delighted to donate €1,100 to Milford Hospice. The Engineers Ireland Thomond region would like to thank the engineering community for supporting this fundraiser.”
Melissa Purcell, Fundraising Officer at Milford Care Centre, said: "Many thanks to the Engineers Ireland Thomond Region for their kind donation; this has been an incredibly difficult and challenging year for all of us.
"Our focus has remained on delivering the best care that we can to our patients and residents. We are so thankful for the support we receive, and rest assured Engineers Ireland’s generous donation will assist in funding the services provided by Milford Hospice.”
