Precision electric drive manufacturer maxon UK & Ireland will present its technology at Medical Technology Ireland, Stand 117, Galway Racecourse, taking place on September 25-26. The company will display its DC motor drive systems and guide medical technology design engineers in drive system specification.

maxon will showcase a range of DC and brushless DC (BLDC) motors designed specifically for medical applications, as well as gearheads, encoders, and motor controllers.

How its drive systems power surgical systems

The company’s engineers will explain how its drive systems power surgical systems, active implants, pumps and drug delivery systems, as well as rehabilitation and prosthetics. 

Matt Dean, maxon UK & Ireland’s lead for medical technology, and Martin Leahy, maxon’s lead engineer for Ireland, will be at the show to discuss drive system design needs.

Along with an extensive drive system catalogue dedicated to medical applications, maxon’s engineers will also explain the company’s specialisation in custom development for specific medical applications.

Medical applications rely on maxon drive systems to achieve precision and high power density, alongside minimal vibration, noise, and heat build-up. maxon combines this performance with sterilisable drive system technology, suitable for as many as 2,000 autoclave cycles.

At Medical Technology Ireland, maxon’s engineers will explain how its drive systems are selected for surgical systems, including robotics and hand tools, as well as medical devices including ventilators and intensive care systems, plus infusion and insulin pumps. In a growing market, maxon’s motors also drive active implants, which the company achieves with biocompatible design.

In addition, the company’s compact and powerful drive systems are relied on to assist prosthetics, exoskeletons, as well as functional rehabilitative devices.
