Olympian, author, and health and wellness speaker David Gillick is hosting session nine of Engineers Ireland’s Essential Skills Insights webinar series on 'Running Through Uncertainty'. The webinar takes place on Thursday, June 17, 2021, from 10am-11am.

Ireland’s first sprint gold medal
Gillick is one of Ireland's most successful sprint athletes, from winning Ireland’s first sprint gold medal at the European Indoor 400m Championships in 2005 to competing at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
He finished in sixth place, beating some of the top 400m athletes, this win was a major goal for him. Gillick still holds both the indoor and outdoor Irish 400m records to date.
He has since had a successful post-athletic career departing from full-time corporate employment to competing on Celebrity MasterChef kitchen, following his passions of promoting healthy living, fitness, and food.
He has published two bestselling books 'David Gillick's Kitchen’ and more recently 'Back on Track, David's 4-part plan to a healthy lifestyle' where he talks openly and honestly about his struggles with mental health post his sporting career and the strategies he used in his recovery.
Gillick works mainly in corporate wellness and performance, supporting organisations, teams, and individuals in realising their potential, operating efficiently and effectively to achieve their respective goals. Alongside the above, he is a regular media contributor on both food and sport, working on various media platforms including TV, radio, online and print.
Gillick will be covering the role of 'Stress, Anxiety and Worry', helping attendees to understand stress and how it impacts the body, good stress, bad stress, and the various types of stress.
Holistic approach
Another topic Gillick will be discussing the act of resilience; what does it mean and why there is a need to build resilience. He will further discuss the topic of management and taking a holistic approach to life around one’s 'Mindset, Rest, Exercise and Nutrition'.
He will also provide an insight into the idea of self-development (self-care) strategies as well as the idea of taking action, within this he will discuss purpose, truth and actions.
