Young Engineers Award

The STEPS Young Engineers Award encourages primary school students, in 3rd and 4th class, to develop creative engineering projects to help or improve their local community.

Children are tasked with identifying a problem and work in teams to come up with a creative engineering solution. They are encouraged to focus on sustainability when creating their solution.

As part of the STEPS Young Engineers Award, schools are also encouraged to invite local engineers, or sign up for a STEPS Volunteer Engineer, to visit their classroom. During this visit, children can showcase their projects and learn about the important role of engineering in the community.

Information for volunteers

The STEPS Young Engineers Award offers teachers the opportunity to invite a STEPS Volunteer Engineer to their class.

STEPS Engineers tell the class a bit about their life as an engineer, listen to the students’ presentations and give some encouraging feedback. They do not judge the projects.

It is a very exciting day for the young engineers.
