Graduate Membership and Chartered Engineer Title

For graduate members who wish to pursue their Chartered Engineer title, now is the time to familiarise yourself with the five Engineers Ireland Chartered Engineer competences and start to map your progress towards obtaining your title.

Competence two: Development and Implementation of Engineering Solutions
Competence three: Professional Responsibility and Leadership
Competence four: Communications Skills
Competence five: Ethical Practice

How you can develop the five competences

Competence one: Engineering Knowledge and Understanding

What you can do: Learn the technical software solutions that are relevant to your area of work. There may be key software that your department uses but seek exposure to other packages to develop skills.

Competence two: Development and Implementation of Engineering Solutions

What you can do: Look for opportunities in your organisation to conduct research, analysis, and develop solutions to engineering problems.

Competence three: Professional Responsibility and Leadership

What you can do: Consider meeting with and/or job shadowing colleagues in other departments to learn about their contributions and the challenges they face in team leadership.

Competence four: Communication Skills

What you can do: Volunteer to present externally for your organisation or look to present to peers in your professional body.

Competence five: Ethical Practice

What you can do: Develop your knowledge of health and safety policies, risks and environmental sustainability practices in the projects you work on.
