1-day course
CPD Credit: 6.5 hours, C1 / C2
Course Aim
This course aims to provide delegates with a comprehensive insight into the key aspects of hydraulic analysis approaches that need to be considered as part of SuDS design (or 3rd party evaluation of the design) using practical worked examples.
Course Overview
The training will cover various hydraulic analysis. It will consider the types of equations that can be used, and the implications of the parameters selected by the engineer / hydraulic modeller. Various factors that can impact on hydraulic analysis will be highlighted.
The course will consider how calculations can be related to integrated design to provide more cost effective and resilient SuDS approaches. Discussion will be facilitated on the use of various runoff equations and software packages available in the marketplace.
Course Objectives
After the course, the participants should:
- Understand key aspects when undertaking hydraulic analysis to inform design of SuDS
- Become better informed to undertake hydraulic analysis directly (or perform a 3rd party review) for SuDS calculations
Programme
- Introduction
- Types of hydraulic calculations
- Attenuation and infiltration
- Runoff equations
- Estimating and evaluating storage volumes for GDSDS
- Designing Flow controls
- Building a management train – benefits to design
- Designing for exceedance
- Incorporating allowance for climate change
- Requirements for modelling
Who Should Attend?
Consulting Engineers, Local Authorities and hydraulic modellers seeking further in-depth knowledge regarding hydraulic analysis and application to SuDS design. Specific knowledge of modelling software is not required. The course is not software-focused.
Trainer’s Profile
Anthony McCloy - BEng, CEng, FIEI
Anthony is Managing Director of McCloy Consulting, a Chartered Engineer, and a Fellow of Engineers Ireland. He has extensive knowledge of the application of hydraulic calculations within SuDS design and has been responsible for the design of a number of innovative schemes.
Anthony’s work to date also includes analysis of drainage catchments and design of drainage systems using various hydraulic modelling packages. As a leading specialist in the field of Sustainable Drainage, Anthony has been delivering SUDS training workshops since 2006, and is a regular speaker at industry seminars and conferences.
