1-day course
CPD Credit: 6.5 hours, C1
Course Aim
To provide delegates with a comprehensive insight into the design and considerations being applied when designing permeable surfaces as part of SuDS design using practical worked examples.
Course Overview
The training will cover approaches to design permeable pavements for managing flows, volumes, water quality and structural strength with the use of worked examples.Guidance will be provided on integration of pervious surfaces within the overall development to maximise cost effective opportunities for SuDS within high density layouts. Aspects of construction, inspection and maintenance will also be covered.
Course Objectives
After the course, the participants should:
- Be enabled to identify constraints and opportunities
- Understand key issues when undertaking design of permeable pavements
- Have an ability to undertake the design of permeable pavements (or have an awareness of key design considerations where not undertaking design directly)
Programme
Introduction
Application and selection of surface type
Designing for water quantity and flow rates
Water quality considerations / risk assessment
Structural design calculations and detailing
Integrating permeable pavement across the site
Specifying site investigation
Risk assessment process for infiltration
Detailing and specification of materials
Costing considerations for permeable pavements
Construction and inspection
Maintenance
Who Should Attend?
Consulting and Contracting Engineers seeking further in-depth knowledge regarding detailed design and innovative applications of permeable pavements within site confines.
Trainer’s Profile
Anthony McCloy - BEng, CEng, FIEI
Anthony is Managing Director of McCloy Consulting, a Chartered Engineer, and a Fellow of Engineers Ireland. He has extensive knowledge of the application of hydraulic calculations within SuDS design and has been responsible for the design of a number of innovative schemes.
Anthony’s work to date also includes analysis of drainage catchments and design of drainage systems using various hydraulic modelling packages. As a leading specialist in the field of Sustainable Drainage, Anthony has been delivering SUDS training workshops since 2006, and is a regular speaker at industry seminars and conferences.
