Course Aim

This one-day programme will provide a brief look into the elements required in TTM Design to provide the candidate with an awareness of what is required to become a designer. This course is aimed at persons who have an interest in TM Design and/or would like to be updated with the new Chapter 8.

Course Overview

This introductory course will provide candidates with:

  • An awareness of current legislation and Best Practice for Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) Design
  • An insight as to what is required of a TTM Designer.

  • Industry Legislation
  • Traffic Signs Manual (2019) and Chapter 8 Suite of Documents
  • Risk Assessment & Method Statements [RAMS]
  • The Job Pack
  • TTM Theory and industry good practice
  • Control Methods
  • Vulnerable Road Users

The course includes group exercises, discussion forum, and a multi-choice answer evaluation questionnaire at the end of the course.

Who Should Attend?

EHS professionals, engineers and senior management looking to enhance their knowledge of temporary traffic management design and its implementation. Ideally, candidates should have prior knowledge of industry legislation although not essential.

Trainer's profile

Barry Bessant

Bessant has over 20 years’ experience in the design and planning of traffic management schemes. He has relevant Health & Safety academic qualifications and is considered to be an industry expert .

Barry attained the status of Traffic Safety & Control Officer [TSCO] accredited by Land Based Training Organisation [LANTRA] (UK) and is one of only four persons qualified to teach Temporary Traffic Management Planning & Design on behalf of the LASNTG.

Some of the major projects Barry has been involved with include:

  • Dublin Airport Authority [DAA] Terminal 2,
  • Phases B100 and C100 of the LUAS Cross City Tram System,
  • Boherboy Sewerage Scheme,
  • Design and implementation of Dublin Port Directions for Temporary TM Works together with a Permit-To-Work [PTW] system,
  • Dublin City Council C3-22 / C4-23 Urban Works Programme,
  • NTA South Dublin County Council Bus Connects Project,

Finally, Barry is also registered with the Road Safety Authority [RSA] as an Approved Driving Instructor [ADI].
