Course Overview
With the combination of climate change and aging infrastructure continuing to add pressure on the ability of existing networks to manage surface water flooding on our streets effectively; the need for the efficient design and construction of nature-based solutions to address this issue has never been more urgent. The purpose of this course is to outline the key processes in the detailed design of nature-based solutions within the public realm. As well as illustrating how to identify, establish and use key design parameters to appropriately size and specify proposed SuDS interventions, this course will also outline methods for overcoming key barriers to construction.
The opportunity will also be provided to discuss and work through a local example against current guidance of where these principles are being employed.

Morning Session
- Review of key SuDS design criteria and how this impacts the concept design process.

- Outline key design parameters and details, as well as methods to maximise the benefit of SuDS construction.
- Discuss detailed design calculation processes and review against current guidance.
Afternoon Session
- Go through a design work example.
- Review real-life example and implementation of discussed design measures.

This course will be of interest to any civil engineer, drainage engineer, roads engineers, local authority officers and contractors working with the public realm, architects, landscape architects, and urban designers involved in the design and delivery of projects through the development consent process in the Republic of Ireland, in both private and public sector.
