Course Overview

This course is suitable for construction industry professionals and will provide knowledge in the requirements of the design and specification of new NZEB homes in Ireland. It will cover all elements of; building fabric, required regulations, ventilation, airtightness, interstitial condensation, building services and renewable energy requirements

Course Programme

  • Module 1. NZEB PRINCIPLES

Basic understanding of NZEB Principles and building regulations in the design and specification of new dwellings

  • Module 2. BUILDING PHYSICS

Basic understanding of Building Physics in terms of heat and moisture flow in new dwellings

  • Module 3. BUILDING FABRIC

Basic understanding of Building Fabric – Construction methods: walls, floors, and roofs; Acceptable Construction Details (ACD’s); Insulation materials; Thermal bridging; Air permeability; Windows and Doors.

  • Module 4. BUILDING SERVICES & RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES

Basic understanding of Building Services – Space heating; Domestic Hot Water, Controlled Ventilation, Renewable energy technologies

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, delegates should be able to:

  • Explain the NZEB Principles associated with the construction of new dwellings.
  • Understand the building regulations associated with the thermal performance and ventilation requirements for new dwellings.
  • Understand basic building physics associated with heat transfer, thermal bridging, vapour movement and condensation.
  • Recognise the key construction principles and techniques used to ensure new dwellings achieve the thermal performance and air tightness required for NZEB standards.
  • Discuss how the building services systems in domestic buildings operate and understand how they are controlled.
  • Understand and discuss the renewable energy technology options available to meet NZEB standards for new dwellings.
  • Recognise work practices on site that do not meet NZEB standards.

Who Should Attend?

Engineers or construction industry professionals wishing to gain knowledge or improve their expertise in the area of NZEB and the design and construction of new energy efficient dwellings.
