Engineers Ireland’s 2021 Annual Report was approved at our AGM on Thursday 2 June. The report presents an overview of our member community and details the achievements of the institution in 2021.
Key achievements/occasions to note across the year of 2021 included:
- An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin TD launching our Statement of Strategic Intent
- Naomi Long, MLA, David McWilliams & others addressing our National Conference
- Our Engineering Barometer report 2021 showed that the profession remained robust in terms of outlook and jobs
- Our community of members is 25,448
- Our State of Ireland report 2021 highlighted the importance of digitalisation, energy infrastructure and research
- 450 Registered Professional Titles were conferred online in 2021
- We featured on RTÉ Nationwide, RTÉ News2Day, This Week (RTÉ Radio 1), President’s Opinion Piece in The Irish Times & others
- 6,337 delegates attended 228 CPD learning events; 29 new specialist courses offered
- Gold certification was achieved in ‘Excellence through People’ (an NSAI standard)
- 174 Sector events held with over 18,200 attendees, generating 196 free CPD hours
- 75 engineering programmes were accredited in 2021
- Our Registrar is President of the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education & Chair of the International Engineering Alliance
- Over 135,500 pupils directly interacted with STEPS in 2021
- Engineering Excellence Digital Series focused on innovation

Also at our AGM, we were pleased to announce the appointment of new Council Members. We welcomed John Cunningham, Peter Monahan, Ruairí O’Byrne, Pat Donnellan, Brian Feighan and Barry Mulvey to the Council of Engineers Ireland for the three-year term, 2022 – 2025. We look forward to working with our new Council members to further strengthen our institution.
