Engineers Ireland’s CPD (Continuing Professional Development) team is launching a suite of training courses, called the Engineering Fundamentals. These courses aim to provide engineers working across all sectors with fundamental knowledge and skills across core specialist topics. The suite will provide key learnings and insights into the basic concepts and principles of specialist areas in engineering.

Speaking about the Engineering Fundamentals, Dee Kehoe, CPD Director, Engineers Ireland said: “We have identified a demand from our members for short training courses that enhance the understanding of other specialist areas outside of an engineer’s core area of work. These training programmes will be of significant benefit to graduate engineers as well as experienced engineers working in adjacent areas to the course topics”.

Forthcoming courses will cover topics including Flood Risk Management, Wastewater Treatment, M&E Consultancy and more. See below a full list of upcoming courses in June:

Fundamentals in Flood Risk Management – Tuesday, 1 June, 9:30am – 17:00pm

This course will provide engineers with an overview of the analysis and methods used in flood risk management, from feasibility to construction stage. Different types of flood risk, an introduction to hydrological and hydraulic analysis as well as how flood maps are used and how flood relief schemes are identified will also be covered throughout the course.

Fundamentals of Wastewater Treatment for Engineers – Tuesday, 15 & Wednesday, 16 June, 9:30am-12:30pm

This course is aimed at engineers with an interest in or new to wastewater treatment. The course will focus on the principles of treatment and design from the point wastewater arrives at the treatment plant to the point that final effluent is discharged.

Introduction to Windfarm High Voltage Electrical Installations – Monday, 21 June, 9:00am to 17:00pm

This course aims to provide participants with an understanding of HV systems on windfarms, the main components, terminology, single line diagrams, operation and maintenance and risks and hazards.

Fundamentals of M&E Consulting – Thursday, 24 June, 9:00am to 17:00pm

The aim of this course is to give graduate engineers and new entrants or those interested in M&E a good understanding of the role of the M&E consultant on a typical construction project from initial client enquiry through to the final handover of the project.

An Introduction to Bioprocessing for Engineers – Thursday, 24 June, 9:00am to 17:00pm

This one-day course aims to introduce the biopharmaceutical industry and its associated processing principles and techniques to Engineers from a non-biopharma background.

Fundamentals of Activated Sludge and Anaerobic Digestion for Engineers –  Tuesday, 2 November, and Thursday, 4 November, 9:30am to 12:30pm

This course is aimed at engineers with an interest in or new to wastewater treatment.  The course will focus on the activated sludge process for meeting discharge consents to water courses and recovering energy from sludges to generate renewable energy through anaerobic digestion.
