XOCEAN, the provider of carbon-neutral ocean data, has announced the creation of 300 jobs as part of its strategic growth plan.
The jobs announcement comes as the XOCEAN team welcomed digital transformation minister Dara Calleary to mark the official opening of its new technical centre near Carlingford, Co Louth. From this facility, XOCEAN serves a growing list of international customers, primarily in the rapidly growing offshore wind market.
Uncrewed Surface Vessels
XOCEAN is transforming how ocean data is delivered, using innovative marine robotics known as Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs). This innovative technology is designed and manufactured by the company in Ireland.
The new technical centre, located at Rathcor, Co Louth, provides an operational hub for the company’s growing fleet with a team of highly qualified engineers and robotic experts ensuring that the vessels are serviced on returning from offshore missions all over the world.
The company has doubled its headcount to more than 200 over the past 12 months and plans to grow it further to 500 over the next two years, with roles available in all areas of the business including engineers, technicians, field operatives, data analysts, qualified mariners, geophysicists and project managers.
The global market for ocean data is expanding rapidly, driven largely by the requirements that offshore wind developers have for high-quality data.
XOCEAN’s USVs offer significant benefits including safety with operators remaining onshore, efficiency with 24/7 operations and environmental with 99.9% fewer carbon emissions compared to conventional vessels which together lead to significant economic savings.
Global leader in USV market and marine-tech sector
Minister Dara Calleary said: “I’m delighted to officially open XOCEAN’s new marine robotics technical centre which will result in the creation of 300 new jobs in the coming years. Ireland is one of the largest maritime states in Europe and has become a global leader in the USV market and marine-tech sector.”
James Ives, CEO, XOCEAN said: “We’re delighted to welcome Minister Calleary to open our new technical centre. XOCEAN continues to experience rapid growth, driven largely by the major expansion of the international offshore wind market and the need for clean, renewable energy globally.
"XOCEAN is delighted to be supporting many of the world’s largest energy companies through the delivery of safe, cost-effective and ultra-low-impact ocean data. The future looks set to be an exciting time for XOCEAN as we continue to grow our brilliant team and our fleet of USVs to meet growing market demands.”
Leo Clancy, CEO of Enterprise Ireland added: “Enterprise Ireland works closely with Irish companies to help them build scale and expand their reach in overseas markets. XOCEAN is a fast-growing company in the marine-tech space and is a perfect example of an Irish technology company with global ambition.
