The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) welcomed 4,000 attendees to the SEAI Energy Show, which took place in the RDS on March 27 and 28. The event showed the vibrancy of the energy sector and the pace of innovation, as new energy saving technologies come to the market.
Central to this innovation was Xylem Water Solutions for its SmartBall which won both the ‘Overall Product of Show Award’ and the Innovation Award. The SmartBall technology enables the easy identification of leaks in pipes used for water and wastewater by recording acoustic activity as it passes through a pipeline.
Paul Martin, programme manager at SEAI and chairperson of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers Ireland chaired the judging panel.
'Championed innovative product development'
He said: “For many years, the Product of the Show Awards have championed innovative product development, especially those incorporating smart energy solutions. Considerable investment in R&D, coupled with rapidly changing technology, have seen a wave of pioneering products and systems featured at the show.
"The winners all share a passion for a clean energy future and are providing businesses and consumers with exciting new energy products that will help us use less and use clean.”
Jason Howlett from Xylem Water Solutions said: “We are delighted to be the overall winner of the SEAI Product of the Show Award. We have a passion for smart technology to drastically reduce capital costs, reduce energy and prevent water losses.
"The SmartBall is an innovative solution and based on numerous case studies can typically save 99 per cent on a normal age based asset replacement programme. This award is recognition of a pioneering product that is ground breaking in its field.”
