In May 2021, the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) unveiled IS 328 – 'Gas transmission – Pipelines and Pipeline Installations (Edition 5)'. This standard supersedes IS 328:2015 Edition 4, and provides further guidance in the design, construction, inspection, testing, operation and maintenance of pipelines, pressure regulation stations and other pipeline installations.
IS 328, whose first edition was published in 1987, has been used by organisations such as Gas Networks Ireland to inform how their gas regulating stations and pipelines are designed and constructed.
The new edition of the Standard provides up-to-date protocols and methodologies for such installations, to reflect technological advancements.
Edition 5 of the Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee TC 5, of the Gas Technical Standards Committee.
“NSAI would like to thank all those on the committee, especially PJ Rudden who led the revision of the Standard, retiring as Chair of TC 5 in 2019. PJ provided stewardship in the development of standards for 20 years, bringing a wealth of experience from industry,” said NSAI standards officer, Alice Hanly.
“As the design process and construction methodologies continue to evolve, the Gas Technical Standards Committee will continue to keep the Standard under review to reflect industry best practice.”
