With just four weeks until the September 18 entry deadline, Engineers Ireland is calling on engineers and engineering organisations nationwide to submit their entries to the Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards, held in association with ESB.

Now in its 10th year, the awards are open to engineering leaders and teams who have made a significant impact on society and demonstrated exceptional engineering vision and skill through their work.

Caroline Spillane, director general of Engineers Ireland, said: “The Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards honour the pioneering work that is carried out by Irish engineers both at home and abroad.

"Our 13 award categories span the wide range of engineering disciplines and I would encourage engineers and engineering organisations to celebrate their achievements by submitting an entry to the 2019 Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards prior to the 18 September deadline.”

Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards categories

The Engineering Project of the Year Award, sponsored by Transport Infrastructure Ireland, is one of the most hotly contested award categories with the winner decided by a weighted voting process involving an online public vote and a panel of expert judges.

This award, open to all disciplines of engineering, emphasises the important contribution engineers makes to society and recognises the highest level of achievement in the engineering field.

The Sustainability Award, sponsored by Irish Water, is a new addition to the 2019 Excellence Awards and is open to all disciplines of engineering and environmental industries.

This award will be presented to an individual or team who have excelled in the core pillars of sustainability throughout the delivery of an initiative or project.

The Engineering Education Award, sponsored by Accenture, has also been re-introduced for 2019. This award recognises innovation and excellence in Irish engineering education and will be presented to a third-level engineering education institution or organisation which coordinates initiatives in third-level engineering education institutions.

Additional categories open for entry include the Geoscience Ireland Award, sponsored by Geoscience Ireland; the Local Authority Engineering Initiative Award, sponsored by Colas Bitumen Emulsions and the Heritage and Conservation Award, sponsored by the OPW.

Members of the public are also encouraged to nominate an Irish engineer that you know who has worked or is working on a project outside of Ireland that clearly contributes to society for the ESB International Engineer of the Year Award.

Each regional branch, engineering division and society committee of Engineers Ireland are also encouraged to nominate their best presentation for the 2018–2019 season in the Best Presentation Award category, co-sponsored by Griffiths and Armour and Beale and Company.
