Anyone watching RTÉ's Prime Time this winter will have seen just how emotive an issue is Ireland's energy future. Two recent programmes looked at the expansion of Ireland's electrical grid, the construction of pylons, wind turbines and the arguments for and against the development of such renewable energies. During these Prime Time debates, emotions ran particularly high amongst the panelists and, especially, the studio audience. Indeed, such was the interest and emotion generated during and post screening, RTÉ has indicated that it intends to dedicate an entire programme to these issues in the near future. It is against this background that summit organisers iQuest has announced the launch of the National Power & Electricity Summit, which is to take place in Croke Park, Dublin, on 29 January. Scheduled to be the first major power summit of 2014, the summit is an industry event focusing on innovation, development and investment in the sector. iQuest managing director Michael Nolan said the company was set to deliver the best agenda and speaker line-up possible. "We've confirmed over 30 of the best speakers from the energy sector, including experts from the UK, Belgium, France, Italy and elsewhere in the EU," said Nolan. "To ensure maximum benefit for attendees, we've split the agenda into three distinct tracks: 'Smart Electricity', 'Renewable Energy' and 'Oil & Gas'. "We've also allowed plenty of time for networking, as we know this is a major reason people attend our events," he concluded.
