The Limerick-based smart grid company, VIOTAS, has announced a partnership with New Zealand electricity provider WEL Networks.
VIOTAS is working with WEL Networks on its pathway to decarbonising the electricity supply to its 100,000 customers, centred around the city of Hamilton.
This latest partnership with WEL Networks means that VIOTAS technologies and systems are now live in Ireland, France, Australia, and New Zealand; actively supporting the reliability, security and stability of national electricity grids.
VIOTAS Demand Response technologies empower commercial and industrial organisations to earn revenue by becoming active participants on the power system.
As VIOTAS customers are playing a key role in accelerating the greater use of renewable energy in their markets, they are also helping to reduce their own carbon impact.
Manage increasing amounts of renewable energy on the grid
VIOTAS is supporting WEL Networks with the required hardware, software and training to allow the well-established network operator to manage increasing amounts of renewable energy on the grid. VIOTAS provides these services remotely from its Australian base with support from its Limerick HQ.
Garth Dibley, chief executive of WEL Networks said: “We decided on VIOTAS as the preferred supplier due to its advanced technology, the speed of operation and most of all, the real time demand insights it provides to operational staff.”
Duncan O’Toole, commercial director at VIOTAS, added: “VIOTAS is marking 10 years in business this year. From humble beginnings with three employees operating out of a box room in Limerick, we’ve grown to be recognised as a leader in the power Demand Response space due to our continuous investment in R&D. This year we celebrated our hundredth employee joining us and we currently have a number of varied roles open across the business.
“While the company continually evolves and innovates, our mission to democratise energy and enable a sustainable future through developing the most advanced smart grid technologies remains consistent. Our technologies allow businesses to earn revenue and help balance the use of renewable energy in the grid.
“We are delighted to be working with WEL Networks in New Zealand. We have an ambitious strategic plan to continue to grow our business and provide high-quality employment, especially in Limerick and the midwest.”
Alexa Toomey, head of sustainability and renewable energy at Enterprise Ireland, said: “VIOTAS is an innovative company providing cutting-edge solutions that support security of supply and sustainability in the energy sector.
"Its commitment to innovation contributes to its global reputation in the sector and Enterprise Ireland looks forward to continuing to work with VIOTAS as it implements its ambitious growth plans.”
