Organisation profile
The origins of Roadstone go back to the early 1930’s when two Dublin brothers Tom and Donal Roche started a sand and gravel haulage business operating from a small yard at Inchicore in West Dublin. Their company developed steadily during the 30’s and 40’s and a new company, Roadstone, launched in 1949. Roadstone now operate at over 40 locations nationwide providing high quality products such as blocks, concrete, mortars, grolime, asphalt, masonry, paving, and stonefill to the Irish market.
Training aim
Roadstone's Solution to Permeable Paving looks to educate engineers and users on the benefits of using permeable paving systems in both small and large scale projects.
Learning objectives
To illustrate the need and importance of sustainable urban drainage systems
To describe how the layers of infiltration and attenuation options should be built up and to discuss the stone, intergrids and membranes that should be incorporated into their design
To describe the maintenance routines required to ensure that permeable paving systems perform to the maximum of their capability
To contrast the construction costs associated with a traditional pavings system and permeable paving systems
Course outline
Cities throughout Ireland have grown in size dramatically in the last 20 years. This has resulted in a huge increase in the number of paved, tarmaced and concreted areas, putting added pressure on already overloaded drainage systems and increasing the volumes of surface water run-off. As a result severe flooding has resulted in a number of Irish cities. Roadstone's Solution to Permeable Paving examines the permeable paving solution Aquaflow that can be used as a Sustainable Urban Drainage System
