UCD College of Engineering and Architecture micro-credentials give learners the opportunity to upskill and reskill in highly specialised areas. These short courses are currently funded by 50% or 80%.
What are micro-credentials?
Micro-credentials are short, flexible, accredited, industry-aligned courses that give learners the opportunity to upskill and boost their career prospects. The content for these engineering micro-credentials is developed and delivered by the university's world-class academic faculty.
Micro-credentials aim to address many of the barriers to life-long learning and their flexible design enables learners to successfully balance further study with other commitments. Each micro-credential is a fully standalone upskilling opportunity, but learners also acquire university credit in the form of ECTS.
Learner fee subsidy scheme
The HCI Micro-Credential Fee Subsidy has been introduced to enable more learners to address critical skills gaps and engage with lifelong learning through micro-credentials. This scheme reduces the learner fee by 50% or 80% for eligible learners on identified micro-credentials, on a first-come-first served basis.

Electricity Grid Operation (80% fee subsidy)
This micro-credential addresses the key specifics of electrical power system operation, control, and energy economics. Through online lectures and tutorials, and in-person lab demonstrations using the facilities of UCD Energy Institute’s Integrated Energy Lab, students will gain theoretical and ‘hands-on’ experience and understanding of operating a power system.
Together with the technical aspects, this micro-credential will also explore the broader context of power systems and society. It encourages participants to appreciate the future challenges that power systems are poised to face, underscoring the intricate interplay between energy infrastructure and societal dynamics.
Upon completion, participants will emerge well-versed in the complexities of power systems, equipped with the practical skills and theoretical insights necessary for thriving in the ever-evolving landscape of electrical power.

Industrial Data Analytics (80% fee subsidy)
The aim of this micro-credential is to answer the questions on how to develop an appropriate data analytics solution for an industry challenge, and what predictive model is the best choice of this solution.
In addition, it provides a unique opportunity to gain insights into the fundamental concepts, techniques, and applications of data analytics in an industrial environment. An important objective is to explain key steps involved in a predictive data analytics project. The course does not involve coding; however, easy-to-use choices are available for practitioners who are interested.

Engineering Project Management (50% fee subsidy)
This micro-credential teaches key project management skills and explores factors determining project success through real-world case studies and fundamental theories.
Throughout, there is some emphasis on engineering and product development projects. However, the core skills are applicable to project across many different industries, making this micro-credential very widely applicable.
By integrating professional best practices from the Project Management Body of Knowledge and the ISO21500 family of international project management standards, the micro-credential prepares learners to work in a project management team anywhere that these best practices are applied.
