The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland was established as Ireland's national energy authority under the Sustainable Energy Act 2002. SEAI's mission is to play a leading role in transforming Ireland into a society based on sustainable energy structures, technologies and practices. To fulfil this mission SEAI aims to provide well-timed and informed advice to Government, and deliver a range of programmes efficiently and effectively, while engaging and motivating a wide range of stakeholders.
Training aim
To provide an overview of policies affecting the development of a LARES, the data and information sources for quantifying renewable energy resources and spatial issues impacting the potential
Learning objectives
On completion of the course, participants will be able to:
Understand the policies that drive the development of renewable energy
Identify and use a suite of data and information resources to quantify existing and potential renewable energy capacity
Understand the principles in determining viable resources for development
Identify the infrastructural and environmental constraints and facilitators
Understand the land use interactions for each technology that will inform spatial planning

Trainer's profile
Matthew Vesey BSc MSc is a Principal Scientist who has over 11 years’ experience in renewable energy development, energy efficiency, energy audits, planning and environmental approvals. Matthew has worked as a project manager for onshore wind farm feasibility studies and planning approvals with E.ON Renewables in the UK. These projects have required review of planning policy in relation to wind farm developments, analysis of constraints, windfarm design and management of technical studies.
