O’Herlihy Access Consultancy aims to support organisations to ensure all aspects of their services are accessible. We provide high quality training, development & consultancy services to facilitate professional development, enhance organisational effectiveness and contribute to disability equality in Ireland.
We can work with you in the capacity of retained access advisor or on an ad hoc basis, completing everything from access auditing and the preparation of Disability Access Certificates Applications.
Training aim
The aim of this course is to equip participants with an understanding of the requirements of Part M 2010 and ensure participants appreciate the key content of Technical Guidance Document (TGD) M 2010.
Learning objectives
Understand the key amendments to Part M 2010 and have an increased awareness of the implications of TGD M 2010 on the design of new buildings, extensions, material alterations, minor works and certain material changes of use.
Appreciate how to determine practicability and understand the application of Part M to new buildings, existing buildings and dwellings.
Strengthen knowledge of the Disability Act 2005, Part M of the Building Regulations and other relevant built environment legislation.
Understand the concepts of Universal Accessibility, Universal Design and access to the built and external environment.
Course outline
The Building Regulations (Part M Amendment) Regulations 2010 (S.1. No 513 of 2010) were signed by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government John Gormley on the 1st of November 2010 and published as a Statutory Instrument on the 5th of November 2010. The Building Regulations (Part M Amendment) Regulations introduce a number of significant amendments to Part M of the Building Regulations which will come into operation from the 1st January 2012. This programme introduces participants to the key requirements of Part M 2010 and provides an overview of TGD M 2010.
Trainer's profile
Eoin O’Herlihy qualified with a First Class Honours in Bachelor of Technology in Education in Materials and Engineering Technology. He continued his studies on a part time basis and completed an Engineering Research Master’s Degree in March 2003. Eoin is currently the chairperson for the National Standards Authority of Ireland, Access for All Consultative Working Group 1 (Built Environment) and has been providing technical training on Universal Design and accessibility for the past four years.
