O’Herlihy Access Consultancy aims to support organisations to ensure all aspects of their services are accessible. We provide high quality training, development & consultancy services to facilitate professional development, enhance organisational effectiveness and contribute to disability equality in Ireland.
We can work with you in the capacity of retained access advisor or on an ad hoc basis, completing everything from access auditing and the preparation of Disability Access Certificates.
Training aim
The aim of this course is to equip participants with an understanding of Universal Design in the built and external environment and to provide a background to Disability Access Certificates.
Learning objectives
Increased awareness of Universal Access and Universal Design
Understanding of the key design criteria for an accessible building
Participants will strengthen their knowledge of the Disability Act 2005, Part M 2010 of the Building Regulations, and other relevant built environment legislation
Participants will learn the key requirements and criteria to develop a Disability Access Certificate
Understanding of the disability proofing process for planning and designing for accessibility
Course outline
The Building Control Act of 2007 introduces the provision of Disability Access Certificates as part of the Fire safety Certificate Application Process. This programme introduces participants to the key principles of Universal Access, Universal Design and how to develop a Disability Access Certificate, to ensure all aspects of the built environment are accessible.
Trainer's profile
Eoin O’Herlihy qualified with a First Class Honours in Bachelor of Technology in Education in Materials and Engineering Technology. He continued his studies on a part time basis and completed an Engineering Research Master’s Degree in March 2003. Eoin is currently the chairperson for the National Standards Authority of Ireland, Acc
ess for All Consultative Working Group 1 (Built Environment) and has been providing technical training on Universal Design and accessibility for the past four years.
