Celebrating 50 Years of the Chartered Engineer Title
2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the passing in May 1969 of an Act of the Oireachtas that provided for the unification of the Irish engineering profession, the establishment of the title Chartered Engineer and the re-naming of the engineering professional body as The Institution of Engineers of Ireland or Cumann na nInnealtóirí.
Called to Serve Two
The book Called to Serve Two (the follow up to Called to Serve, 2014), covers the Presidential Addresses from the time of unification of the engineering profession in Ireland in 1969 up to 2018 and are presented in an historical context. Edited abstracts from the addresses are preceded by a continuation of the brief history of the Institution of Engineers Ireland from 1969 to 2018 in order to provide a framework within which the addresses may be considered. A major portion of the book is devoted to biographical sketches of each of the presidents – from Jock Harbison in 1969 to Peter Quinn in 2018.
