About the event

Are you an engineer or studying engineering? Want to find out more about inspiring the Next Generation of Engineers?

Come along to the STEPS Volunteer Training Session and learn all about how to get involved. There is no obligation - you can decide to opt in or opt out after the event.

Please note: you must have attended a STEPS Training Session to take part in the STEPS Volunteer Engineer Programme 2019.

At the training session you will meet the STEPS Team, as well as fellow STEPS Volunteer Engineers. We will go through topics like volunteering as an engineer, the STEPS Young Engineers Award and what happens at a STEPS school visit. There will also be lots of ideas on delivering engineering activities to young children. And it will be fun! Importantly, you will learn about the role of the STEPS Volunteer Engineer and our Child Protection Policy.

About the STEPS Volunteer Engineer Programme

The Engineers Ireland STEPS Programme runs a Volunteer Engineer initiative. STEPS Volunteer Engineers visit 3rd and 4th class primary school students all over the country taking part in the STEPS Young Engineers Award in November.

It is a fantastic opportunity to give back to your local community and to give your time to carry out meaningful work that will really make a difference.

Other benefits include:

  • Become a Role Model to inspire and encourage children to explore engineering
  • Develop your communication skills
  • Take on challenging but rewarding work
  • Be part of a nationwide community of volunteer engineers
  • The best way to gain CPD credits!

You can find out lots more information on volunteering with STEPS on the website:

Accredited Volunteering Body

The STEPS Volunteer Engineer Programme has been awarded the Investing in Volunteers Standard - we are the only volunteer engineer body in Ireland to have achieved this.

We take child protection seriously. For that reason in order to volunteer with STEPS you must have attended one of the 2019 training sessions.
