IBEC/TU DUBLIN Diploma in Leadership
Programme Overview
The primary objective of the Diploma in Leadership is to ensure you become an effective leader in your organisation. This programme will teach you the skills you need to lead yourself and others. It will develop your understanding of the different styles of leadership as well as determining your style and its effectiveness. It will enable you to describe and develop the strategies that capitalise on your strengths and overcome any weaknesses for yourself and your business.
Programme Outcomes
On completion of this programme, participants will be able to:

Identify your personal strengths and weaknesses as a leader.

Understand the different styles of leadership.

Understand personality and how it affects leadership and behaviour in organisations.

Improve your skills in assertiveness, be clearer about objectives and time management skills and make decisions with confidence.

Build strong relationships internal and external to the organisation.

Deal more effectively with power and politics in the organisation and lead teams more effectively.

Understand how to ‘read’ a culture.

Recognise and practise active listening.

Practice giving and receiving feedback effectively.
Approach
There are a number of activities and case studies used throughout the programme which ensure that all of the learning is applied in a real way. The programme is delivered by experienced Ibec executives who provide members with advice, consultancy and training on a daily basis. The programme leader encourages group discussion and involvement throughout each session, ensuring opportunities for questions and real issues are discussed at all times. Best practice examples in all areas will be highlighted and discussed throughout the programme, giving participants plenty of opportunities to build on the elements of these that could be applied in their own organisations.
Who Should Attend
The programme is designed to meet the needs of those leading teams or departments in the organisation. Therefore, those attending should currently occupy leadership roles or expect to move into leadership positions where they are responsible for others within the team or organisation.

Self Awareness
This module will address the following content areas:

Interpersonal Skills
This module will address the following content areas:

Communication skills as the basic building block of interpersonal relationships

Managing the performance of others through goal setting, coaching and feedback

Using your communication style to influence others and handle conflict

Strategy and the Environment

Programme Assessment:
Individual assessments are an integral part of the programme and count towards end of year results as follows:

Two Closed book exams 40%
-
Project (3,500-5,000 words) 30%
-
Learning journal and class participation 30%

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Confirmation is subject to event fee being finalised. Cancellation fees calculated at 50% of the estimated total bill will be charge for confirmed bookings cancelled less than 5 working days prior to the date of the planned event. A replacement person can attend instead. Cancellations made the day prior to an event will be charged 75% of the total estimated bill. No-shows will be charged the full fee. All cancellations must be confirmed in writing by email. Engineers Ireland will not be liable for any costs in the event of a course being re-scheduled. This applies, but is not limited, to any travelling, subsistence or consequential expenses incurred by delegates.
