Course Aims

The aim of this course is to provide an understanding of:

• fundamental engineering concepts

• requirements of IEC and IEEE Standards

• criteria for selection and purchase specification

• power rating, voltage ratio and vector group

• routine, type and special tests

• site installation, testing and commissioning

• maintenance and operation of Distribution and Power Transformers.

It will also outline a framework within which, transformers can be designed, installed, maintained and operated in accordance with Part 3 of the 2007 Safety Health & Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations and other relevant legislation.

Trainer Profile 


Padraig Plunkett BE C.Eng M.IEI P2 is a Chartered Electrical Engineer and Prince 2 project manager with over 35 years of international experience in HV Power Systems and is a member of:

• NSAI/ETC/TC 03: I.S.EN 61936 & I.S.EN 50110

• IEC TC99/MT4: IEC 61936-1 Power installations exceeding 1kV (1.5kV dc)

• CENELEC CLC / BTTF 62-3: EN 50110 Operation of electrical installations

• IEC PC 128: Safe management and operation of electrical installations
