We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic person with excellent organisation skills to work with Engineers Ireland's education outreach programme, STEPS. The role is for a fixed-term of one year.

Engineers Ireland is the representative voice of the engineering profession in Ireland with over 23,000 individual members. Engineers Ireland’s STEPS programme is supported by the Department of Education, Science Foundation Ireland's Discover Programme and a number of major engineering employers. The programme was established by Engineers Ireland in 2000 to encourage primary and post-primary students to explore the world of science and engineering.

STEPS recruits, trains and supports volunteer engineers nationwide to act as role models within their communities, while supplying engineering careers information to teachers, students and parents through events, career fairs and online. STEPS help engineering companies to bring students out into industry situations, trains industry volunteers to run hands-on workshops in the classroom, and provides teachers with suggestions for running their own make-and-do STEM activities.

STEPS is a funded strategic partner of SFI's Discover Programme, collaborating on the delivery of Smart Futures – a government-industry-education programme promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) careers to post-primary students in Ireland.

Purpose of Role

Reporting to the STEPS Team Leader, the purpose of the role is to administer, organise and support various programmes designed to promote engineering to young people and their influencers.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Administration and coordination of various STEM outreach activities – including the STEPS school visits programme - using the Salesforce CRM platform.

  • Matching teachers with engineer volunteers using the Salesforce CRM system.
  • Organising and coordinating events for Engineers Week, a nationwide festival of engineering.
  • Administering and coordinating outreach events such as STEM career fairs and our Transition Year placement programme.
  • Supporting the recruitment and management of industry volunteers.
  • Communicating with various audiences – from engineers to teachers to students - across various channels including email, newsletter campaigns, phone and face-to-face.
  • Assisting in the development of STEM resources for teachers and volunteers.
  • Supporting the team in evaluating the STEPS programme.
  • Supporting the STEPS team in various other activities and contributing to Engineers Ireland's achievement of the goals and objectives of the wider organisation.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • A third level qualification is required.
  • A minimum of one year’s appropriate office experience.
  • Strong administration skills, along with excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of audiences. Enthusiasm for online and social media a plus.
  • First class PC skills required. Enthusiasm for IT desirable. Experience with Salesforce and Excel a plus.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and outgoing with an ability to establish rapport quickly with others.
  • Attention to detail essential.
  • Solutions-driven with a proven ability to work as part of a team and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Experience with volunteers or volunteering would be beneficial.

The role will be based at Engineers Ireland headquarters in Dublin. A remuneration package commensurate with the role will be offered to the successful candidate.
