Monitoring the effects of the construction of road crossings on the aquatic environment in SACs
About the event
A joint project was undertaken by the School of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering and the School of Biology and Environmental Science at UCD to examine the effects of the construction of road crossings on the aquatic environment in SACs. The project was funded by a Fellowship provided by the NRA. The objective of the research was to assist the NRA in improving guidelines on crossings of watercourses during the construction of national road schemes.
With particular focus on the aquatic environment, the presentation will:
•Outline potential ecological impacts of road crossing structures;
•Review relevant national and international standards;
•Describe the monitoring programme undertaken;
•Examine the effectiveness of mitigation measures on a number of recently constructed motorway schemes.
