About the event
A three part presentation during which:
Access to Collision Data will be presented by Des O'Connor. There have been a number of recent developments in road safety engineering, a lot of which is been driven by the EURISM Directive and Ireland's response to it. The requirement to undertake regular road safety inspections (RSIs) has resulted in a requirement for the NRA to make collision data available to road safety inspectors and designers. Des will give a presentation on where this information comes from and some historic analysis based on this information.
Network Safety Analysis HD15 will be presented by Louise Doherty and Clodagh Staunton. Processing the collision information, gaining an insight into simple point data, and how, through spatial manipulation, it can be transferred into meaningful linear features. Interpreting collision information, utilising reference populations, and further site data assessment to gain an understanding of the problems on the network.
Transferability of HD15 and Site Analysis based on the above data will be presented by Forbes Vigors. Transferring this form of analysis to other road networks, analysing the data at an identified site. How the data can be further analysed, patterns identified, and possible solutions available, and how to prioritise the solutions.
About the speakers
Forbes Vigors Chartered Engineer - NRA Project Manager Road Safety
Forbes is a graduate of the University of Glamorgan and holds a certificate of competence in road safety audit from UCD and a certificate in forensic collision investigation from the De Montfort University in the UK. Forbes worked in the Tramore House Regional Design Office as a Regional Road Safety Engineer from 1999 to 2006, he joined the National Roads Authority in 2006, and is currently the Project Manager for Road Safety with responsibility for the management and implementation of the NRA road safety programme.
Des O'Connor - NRA Road Safety Spatial Analyst
Des has spent the last 20 years working with various kinds of spatial data on a wide variety of projects. He began his career with ESBI before joining Dublin City Council in 1997. In 2001 he joined the NRA and has been involved in the road safety section for the majority of the time. He has an MSc in spatial information management from DIT and recently completed a certificate in road safety audit at UCD.
Louise Doherty - NRA GIS Spatial Analyst Intern
Louise graduated with a BA in Geography from DCU in 2006. She has recently graduated from UCD with an MSc in Environmental Resource Management (September 2012). Louise has a keen interest in spatial analysis. She is currently doing an internship in the road safety section of the NRA, where she is involved in the implementation of HD-15.
Clodagh Staunton - NRA GIS Spatial Analyst Intern
Clodagh holds a BA in Geography and Economics. She recently graduated with a masters in economic and environmental modelling from NUIG. Currently she is working with the road safety team within the NRA where she has been involved in producing control data for collision analysis and other areas where she utilises her GIS knowledge.
