About the event

In this two part presentation, run jointly with the Pipeline Industries Guild, Liam Toomey will demonstrate how social networks contribute to project management performance.  He will explore the management of the project team’s interfacing to the external environment by the project manager and introduce the most significant social network approaches, illustrating their impacts on project management resulting from a qualitative analysis study.

In the second part of the evening, commencing at 7.15, Callista Brien will provide a brief introduction to recent developments in social media and will discuss the opportunities and challenges of using social media  to enhance communication with project stakeholders as well as personal networking.

About the speakers    

Liam Toomey is a Chartered Engineer and a project manager working with Mott MacDonald Ireland, an international multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in Dublin.  He received his Masters in Project Management from UL 2010, during which he won the dissertation of the year award, upon which his presentation on Social Network Theory & Project Management Performance is based.  He practiced as a project manager prior to beginning his Masters and practiced as a Senior Chartered Electrical Engineer before that.  His experience in project management was gained in power generation, transmission and distribution, and transportation in Ireland, the UK, Africa, the Caribbean, Australia, South Asia and Scandinavia.

Callista Brien is a Chartered Engineer with RPS Group, working with the Project Communications Team member that specialises in communications for major infrastructural and environmental projects relating to regeneration, energy, transport, waste management and water.  Callista specialises in developing and implementing stakeholder engagement strategies on major infrastructural projects and awareness campaigns.  For the North South 400 kV project Callista provides an interface between the line design and communications teams and has pioneered the development of a bespoke online tool for the management of stakeholder information for all of EirGrid Grid 25 projects.  In addition to this Callista has designed and implemented a number of social media and bespoke online communications campaigns.  Such projects have included The Change Campaign - Ireland’s National climate change awareness campaign, the Dublin Transport Office 2030 Vision Consultation as well as the European Commission’s European Green Capital Award.
