Johnson & Johnson Vision Care (Ireland) produces the ACUVUE® range of contact lenses, which is the leading contact lens product in the world. The Limerick site uses the most advanced technology in the industry and now employs over 850 people directly. Using a highly automated production process, J&J produce daily disposable contact lenses while utilising state of the art technologies such as injection moulding, robotics, vision systems, and sterilisation systems.
A new 3MW wind turbine at Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Vision Care’s manufacturing facility in Limerick is now fully operational. Its location on the National Technology Park reflects J&J’s ambition that 20% of its electricity be procured or produced from clean/renewable sources by 2020 and that all of its facilities will be powered with renewable energy by 2050. All of the energy produced by the turbine will be used by the plant itself. The Wind Turbine project was completed as part of an overall plant expansion which involved new production facilities, utilities and a new tank farm.
