Disposal Options for Treated Domestic Wastewater in Low Permeability Subsoils
About the event
Many areas of rural Ireland are classified as unsuitable for new development because of the health risks associated with sewage-related pollution. In this presentation, Joe Walsh of Ash Environmental Technologies looks at two technologies that can provide solutions for some of these sites. This follows the recently published EPA funded Strive Report No. 161 - Assessment of disposal options for treated wastewater from single houses in low-permeability subsoils (Gill, L.W. et al. 2015). The presentation will focus on Low Pressure Pipe (LPP) pressure distribution systems, as well as Drip Distribution (DD) systems. The presentation will also consider existing houses on sites that would not meet current standards. These may need upgrading in the future, particularly when there is a change of ownership; when the house is being extended; or should the house fail an inspection under the National Inspection Plan for Domestic Wastewater Treatment Systems.
This presentation will be of interest to engineers, site assessors and professionals acting as assigned certifiers. It will also interest those carrying out structural inspections of existing dwellings with onsite wastewater treatment systems.
