About the event
There are just 20 places availabe on this site visit so early booking is strongly recommended.
The Carlow Brewing Company tour provides a walk through the brewing process with the brewers, taking us on a journey through Ireland’s indigenous craft brewing history, teaching us about the brewing process and how O’Hara’s award winning beer is brewed. We will taste the special malts and smell the hops that make O’Hara’s craft beers so enjoyable. The tour will finish off with a visit to O’Hara’s tasting room where we will sample and compare some of the award winning craft brews. See here for more information on Carlow Brewing Company.
From here we visit the Walsh Whiskey Distillery which is dedicated to the production of premium handcrafted Irish whiskeys. Located in Ireland’s Ancient East, it is one of the largest independent whiskey distilleries in the country and the only independent distillery in the world to produce all three types of Irish whiskey in one still house, namely – pot still, malt and grain. The still house has two production lines, using both pot stills and column stills, giving capacity to produce 650,000 cases (two and a half million litres of pure alcohol (LPA’s) or 8 million bottles) of whiskey annually. The giant pot stills weigh between four and five tonnes each and scale up to 6.5 metres in height. The largest of the pot stills has a capacity of 15,000 litres. In all there is almost 30 tonnes of copper and steel whiskey distilling equipment installed at Royal Oak. See here for more information on Walsh Whiskey Distillery.
