About the speaker

David Buckley BEng(Hons), LLM (Const. Law & Arb), CEng MIEI MICE

David is a Chartered Engineer with over 11 years experience working in the civil engineering sector as a geotechnical consultant. He is currently an Associate of Ramboll UK were he undertakes geotechnical design and evaluates geotechnical risk, amongst other tasks.  In addition, he provides geotechnical expert advice on technical issues in dispute whilst providing client support in dispute resolution forums such as mediation, conciliation and litigation.

David is a former civil engineering student of IT Carlow and QUB.  He holds a post graduate diploma in arbitration from UCD and a masters of laws in construction law and arbitration from Aberdeen Business School.

About the event

This is a joint event with the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland.  In his presentation David will present an overview on the role of the expert engineer who acts as an expert advisor / expert witness in construction disputes whether it be in ADR, arbitration or litigation. This presentation is based on the findings from his dissertation research titled “The Role of the Expert Witness in Construction Disputes – The Irish Jurisdiction” 2011. The following items will be discussed:

  • The expert witness preparation for dispute resolution forums
  • The expert witness evidence
  • Proposed guidance for Irish expert witnesses
