About the event

The Tellus Border Project is a regional mapping project that will collect scientific data on soils, water and rocks across the six border counties - Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan and Louth - and continue the analysis and application of existing data in the border counties of Northern Ireland.   Information from the project will help manage the environment and support sustainable development of our natural resources. The project is a follow-on from the Tellus project successfully completed in Northern Ireland.

About the speaker

Mairéad Glennon is a geosciences professional with experience in the public and private sectors in Ireland.  After completing degrees in Geography (TCD) and Applied Hydrogeology (Newcastle University), Mairéad worked as a hydrogeologist with URS Ireland Ltd on contaminated land and groundwater projects for clients in the petroleum, pharmaceutical, construction and manufacturing industries.

Now an independent consultant, Mairéad works for the Geological Survey of Ireland on the Tellus Border project.  As Assistant Project Manager and Communications Officer with the €5m EU-funded Tellus Border project, Mairéad assists in the delivery of wide range of cross-border environmental objectives.  The three year project entails an airborne geophysical survey and a ground-based geochemical survey of the six northern counties of Ireland and continued interpretation of data already collected in Northern Ireland from 2005 to 2007.  Mairead previously worked for the GSI as Project Geologist on the Dublin Soil Urban Geochemistry project, producing Dublin’s first urban soil geochemical baseline.  Mairéad is secretary of Earth Science Ireland and an interim committee member of the Ireland Brownfield Network.
