About the event

The evening will comprise of a networking event followed by two technical lectures on the topics of Climate Change in Ireland and Energy Storage.

Networking session

Rodney McDermott Chartered Engineer, Chairman of the Donegal region and Shirley McDonald of Engineers Ireland will facilitate discussion on what is going on in the Region, the profession and Engineers Ireland as a whole.  This is an opportunity to grow your business network and professional knowledge, meet the committee and your peers and to air your views - you will also have the opportunity to tell us what you would like to see happen both in the local Region and in Engineers Ireland as a whole. 

Come and meet with fellow engineers and grow your local professional network!  

This will be followed by two presentations:

Climate Change in Ireland

W Alan Strong, Senior Lecturer at the University of Ulster will present a review of climate change which attempts to dispel the myths of it being a problem for another time.  The lecture will provide current international thinking as well as detailed reviews of predicted changes in rainfall patterns; air temperatures and sea levels and their impacts on Ireland.

Energy Storage

Presented by Dr Philip Griffiths, Associate Head of School of the Built Environment at the University of Ulster.  Energy Storage as enabling technologies to improve the viability of renewable energy systems. The lecture will address issues that hinder the uptake of these enabling technologies and provide direction through current research being undertaken.

The evening will conclude with a reception to facilitate further networking and discussion.
