About the event

This is a joint event with the Republic of Ireland branch of IStructE and the Irish Concrete Society.

The construction of a new cable stayed bridge across the Mersey in the UK is underway. This innovative cable stayed bridge carrying 6-lanes will open in Autumn 2017 after a 3-year construction period. In this lecture, Paul Sanders, Chartered Engineer, Director COWI, will outline the challenges faced by the design team. The construction methodology and the construction work completed to date will also be presented.

About the speaker

Paul Sanders - Director, COWI
Paul joined Flint & Neill in 2002 and became a Director in 2008. His main areas of expertise are in bridge engineering analysis and design of cable supported bridges and his experience covers a wide variety of bridges. Paul has led the concept, preliminary and detailed design of a number of bridge projects and has been the Project Manager for several of the firm's complex bridge designs.
