Electric Cars - Past, Present and Future
About the event
This lecture, jointly hosted by IET and the Cork Region, will examine the role of electric vehicles from their origins in the late 1900’s to
the current state of the art in electric vehicles and the introduction of the electric cars in Ireland. It will deal with the main types of electric vehicles - hybrid, plug in, all electric etc. The energy implications of the movement to electric vehicles will be explored as well as the many challenges such as anxiety range, the roll out of the charging stations
network and the costs.

About the speakers
Dr Werner Wölfle is Managing Director of Convertec Ltd. in Ireland. Convertec develops high reliability power converters for industrial and renewable energy applications. Werner is currently an adjunct professor in Electrical Engineering at NUI Galway.
Ger Buckley is the Programme Manager for ESB eCars. He has been involved in the rollout of electric cars since its inception and he is also the chairperson of the ETCI committee on the standards for electric cars.
