Tottenham Hotspur’s 62,062 seat new stadium at White Hart Lane, North London has created a new paradigm in modern stadia engineering. Together with Architects Populous, BuroHappold have created a state-of-the-art stadium for the modern spectator.  Comprising a 17,000 seat single tier South stand supported by the iconic steel tree columns, an innovative sliding pitch, several large column free hospitality spaces, phased construction and a challenging programme - the new stadium created large demands on the structural design. The presentation describes aspects of the structural design for the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium and explores the use of precast and post-tensioned concrete and fabricated steel in a number of applications and how these solutions effectively combine to create a high quality, visually stunning product that is sure to delight the fans.

About the speaker

Spencer Robinson CEng MICE, CEng MIStructE is an Associate Director with BuroHappold in their Sports and Entertainment team, based in Bath, UK. In recent years Spencer has worked on the transformation of the 2012 London Olympic stadium for football and led the delivery for the structural design packages for the new Tottenham Hotspur football stadium.
