Stephen Howard will discuss cladding fires in high rise buildings – mechanisms of fire spread and methods of test including:

• Certification of passive fire protection products for listing in the LPCB 'Red Book'
• Large-scale facilities for the fire resistance testing of construction products
• Fire testing and certification of cladding systems and the LPS 1181 testing of sandwich panels
• Reaction to fire testing facilities. This testing includes toxicology, spread of flame and measurement of smoke production to British and International standards
• LPCB Installer schemes for passive fire protection

About the speaker

Stephen Howard - Director of Fire Testing and Certification at the Building Research Establishment
Stephen has a wide range of experience in the fire industry including the testing and certification of fire detection and alarms systems.  In his career at BRE, he has also been involved in fire investigation and research projects including the work following the fire at the Rose Park care home, research into fire spread between cars and the effectiveness of domestic smoke alarms.
