About the speaker:
Lars Weimers, Chief Engineer, Marketing HVDC systems at ABB AB in Ludvika Sweden.
Lars graduated from Chalmers University of Technology 1975 with a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed by the HVDC department in ABB in 1979 and has since then been active in almost all areas related to HVDC. His first assignment was manager of thyristor valve design, followed by some years in the marketing department. In 1994 he was appointed R&D manager for Voltage Source Converters, the HVDC Light project. Between 1997 and 1999 he was manager of the HVDC station design and installation and commissioning office. He was the project manager for the Direct Link HVDC Light project in Australia and has, since 2002, been active in HVDC marketing. Between 2005 and 2007 he was based in Beijing and was instrumental in introducing 800 kV DC to the Chinese market. Lars is a member of IEEE and is the author or co-author of numerous articles about the HVDC technology.
