About the event

The Annual Visit of the ICE President to Dublin takes place this year on 13th and 14th February and will commence with the Presidential Address, to be delivered by the 2018-2019 President, Andrew Wyllie CBE FREng MBA BSc CEng FICE CCMI at Engineers Ireland.

The Presidential Address entitled "Improving Lives in our Global Society by being at the forefront of the smart infrastructure revolution" will see Andrew explore five themes for his presidential year which he considers critical to ICE’s future success.

These principles are that ICE must:

  • constantly promote its common purpose to improve lives in a global society,
  • reinforce its position as a "go to" organisation for addressing major global issues and challenges,
  • help ensure its members continue to deliver value for money solutions for their customers,
  • be at the forefront of the smart infrastructure revolution,
  • and continue to attract, nurture and develop the outstanding talent of the next generation.

The address will be followed by a reception in Café Clyde, to which all attendees are invited.

About the speaker

Andrew Wyllie is President of The Institution of Civil Engineers 2018-2019 and Chief Executive of Costain Group PLC, the smart infrastructure solutions company.

Prior to taking up this role in 2005, he worked for Taylor Woodrow where he was Managing Director of the construction business and was a member of the Group Executive Committee.

He worked for several years on a variety of major contracts in Saudi Arabia, Ghana, the Falklands and Malaysia, as well as projects in the United Kingdom.

In addition, Andrew is a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Yorkshire Water and was previously a Non-Executive Director of Scottish Water.

Andrew has an MBA from London Business School, is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institute of Directors and the British American Project. He is also a member of the CBI Infrastructure Board and a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute.

Andrew was awarded a CBE for services to Engineering and Construction.
