National Road Design Register

In collaboration with Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Engineers Ireland has established a National Road Design Register to help designers, contractors and contracting authorities to check the competence of Chartered Engineers or Design Engineers where specific training is required for certification on National Road Projects. 

The Register lists the names of Engineers Ireland members who have completed the CPD Certificate in Vehicle Restraint Systems or the CPD Certificate in Design and Lifecycle of Road Pavements or both. Landfill Register

Engineers Ireland, with official Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approval, has established a register of professionally competent persons (Chartered Engineers), who have demonstrable experience and expertise to conduct technical, risk-based assessment certification of historic landfill sites and contaminated lands sites. Registered Chartered Engineers are listed at the link below and can be contacted directly. The register is operated in accordance with Section 2.3 of Code of Practice: Environmental Risk Assessment for Unregulated Waste Disposal Sites (EPA, 2007). 

The Engineers Ireland Landfill Register is available to all public contracting authorities (for example, local authorities, EPA, National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS), Office of Public Works (OPW), etc).

Engineers Ireland has entered Chartered Engineers with suitable qualifications, relevant project experience and sufficient professional development on the Engineers Ireland Register of Professionally Competent Persons to carry out Landfill Assessments at historical landfill or contaminated sites (the Landfill Register). Members with experience qualifications equivalent to Chartered Engineers are also eligible for inclusion on the register.

This Landfill Register will be refreshed regularly to allow new professionally competent persons to join. Those admitted to the register will be issued with notification formally stating that Engineers Ireland has certified their competence to assure any public or statutory bodies as to the professional and technical competence of the registered person. A panel of senior assessors is in place to consider all applications for admittance to the register.

Register of Ground Engineering Professionals (RoGEP)

The Register of Ground Engineering Professionals (RoGEP) provides external stakeholders, including clients and other professionals, with a means to identify individuals who are suitably qualified and competent in ground engineering.

Chartered Engineers are eligible to apply to join the Register. Joining the register could benefit your career prospects by showing you have specialist ground engineering competences as defined by a growing list of engineering codes and standards.

There are three grades of registration:

  • Ground engineering professional
  • Ground engineering specialist
  • Ground engineering adviser

Conservation Accreditation Register for Engineers (CARE)

The Conservation Register for Engineers (CARE) is for engineers skilled in the conservation of historical structures and sites. It is a joint Register between the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) and is administered by ICE. Under a bilateral registration agreement civil and structural engineers who are Chartered Engineer members can join the CARE Register.

CARE's role

  • Assist clients in selecting an appropriate engineer with conservation experience
  • Encourage education and training in conservation engineering
  • Promote sympathetic and 'best practice' in conservation
  • Raise the awareness of conservation in the engineering profession

Please note that individuals may be specialists in very specific areas of conservation work.  Engineers Ireland Chartered Engineers (Civil and Structural disciplines) are eligible to apply following the same application process open to Chartered members of ICE and IStructE.
