Workshop aim

LOCAFI+ and Column fire design guidance

The purpose of this one day workshop is to disseminate recent research and developments in the area of structural fire engineering, giving consultants the tools to provide clients with the most cost effective design solutions and present this information in a manner to highlight the benefits that can be gained from the methodology for the fire design of columns under localised fire.

During the workshop printed and electronic version of the data will be distributed to the participants.

The data consists of all the presentations, documents and freely available software.

The workshop is organised by Ulster University: Prof Ali Nadjai (Chair): FireSERT Director in conjunction with Engineers Ireland's Fire and Safety Division and with sponsorship from the European Commission.

A new simplified calculation method based on the equations contained in the Annex C combined with the concept of Annex G of EN 1991-1-2 has been developed within LOCAFI project and validated against experimental measurements and numerical results. This method allows to determine the heat flux impinging a vertical member, located at some distance from the fire source, whatever its orientation.

The  Book covers examples:

•design industrial building
•design  office building
•design open car park
