Overview

Engineers Ireland’s dynamic one-day programme “Mentoring for Professional Development” has run more than 40 times since it won a national training award in 2009. This half-day Master class will distil best-practice techniques for practitioners. An ideal refresher for experienced mentors and for all-levels who want to mentor better, this course focuses on specific learning models linked to high-impact best-practice techniques. Attendees leave equipped with the tools and the confidence to optimise how they mentor others.

  • The class will cover the WHAT, WHY and HOW of mentoring including:
  • The practicalities of adult learning
  • Mentoring linked to strategic knowledge-driven initiatives
  • The qualities and competencies of a good mentor
  • What a successful mentoring meeting looks like
  • The ‘must do’ steps to ensure your mentoring process works
  • Roles and responsibilities: line management and HR
  • What the mentee needs to know

Trainer's profile

Aidan Harney, MBS, Chartered FCIPD, is CPD Director for Engineers Ireland and the mentoring programme course author and facilitator.   As a former management consultant, Aidan has delivered tailored training solutions to major blue-chip clients, multinationals and indigenous employers. He guest lectures on mentoring in Dublin City University and has presented his award-winning research on mentoring at international symposia.
