CDM Smith Ireland Ltd is seeking to recruit a Geotechnical Engineer to join the team in its Dublin office. The successful candidate will work on technically challenging and varied projects for a range of clients. The candidate will be able to support geotechnical requirements on projects including desk studies, site investigations, foundation assessment and design, embankment design, ground improvement assessments and contract procurement. The candidate will work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams and will work closely with fellow engineers to support the overall strategy and vision for the company.


The role will be both office and site based and the candidate should be willing to travel overseas occasionally.



  • Geotechnical Engineer or Civil Engineer with strong geotechnical experience.
  • Designing all forms of geotechnical structures including but not limited to retaining structures, slopes, earthworks and temporary works.
  • Design to Eurocode 7.
  • Construction supervision of geotechnical structures and earthwork projects.
  • Coordination with colleagues from other disciplines e.g. Hydrogeologists, Environmental Scientists etc.
  • Flexibility to travel within Ireland for work. Occasional oversees travel may be required.
  • Occasional assistance with tender preparation.



  • An Honours degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or related engineering degree.
  • Post-qualification experience of 4 to 5 years in geotechnical engineering and all-round technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering.
  • Strong capabilities and experience in detailed design using geotechnical and related software packages, plus data management and presentation software such as gINT, GIS, Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
  • Chartered Engineer or progressing towards chartership.
  • Flexible, ability to adapt to change and a can-do attitude in support of projects.
  • Excellent communication, report writing and interpersonal skills
  • Technically focussed with an ability to communicate effectively and develop relationships with clients
  • Ability to lead and motivate themselves and others.
  • Strong understanding of, and adherence to, health and safety regulations and culture.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Full clean driving licence.
